Crafting our Perfect Haven
Transforming our New Builder Home into a Family Paradise
Moving into a new builder home can be exciting... or in most cases overwhelming.
The house is just a building- white primed walls and empty floors. Pros? No one has lived here, ever. It is the FRESHEST start you could possibly get! Cons? Same thing, no one has ever lived here! There are no light fixtures, the walls are stark white, in most cases the window don't have shades...it is a house in its most basic form.
This is my second time though this journey and I wish I had a story like this to help me the first time. I want to get inspired, make some decisions, hopefully save some money, and at the end of the day turn a building into a home for my family.
A million walls, bare floors, and endless potential-this blank slate allows us to dream, design, and build a home that suits our family's unique needs and style. The first step is to figure out the function of each room and space.
Let's turn this blank canvas into my masterpiece.
The Floorplan
Yes, it is exciting that we are upgrading square footage! We are actually only expanding another 300 square feet. However, this new floor plan utilizes space SO MUCH BETTER. In our first home we had a big open floor plan with a lot of empty areas. It was very on trend, yet very hard to design, furnish and use. The only upside is that the kids and dogs had a ton of open room to play- but what about the parents?!
We are moving:
FROM this one level home: 4 bed, 3 bath with an open concept dining/kitchen/living area
TO this two level home: 5 bed, 3 bath, flex space (office), loft, with open concept dining/kitchen/living area
Here is the floorplan for the new house:
Notice about this that there are a ton of separate rooms. This is what I really wanted. I didn't realize the first time around how important it was to have different sectioned off spaces, especially with a growing family. You live you learn, I guess? Or you find a blogger willing to share the experience!
I should probably note that this house has a huge yard and the neighborhood has a ton of amenities. Maybe later we can talk about that for those who are looking for a similar situation. For now...lets stay focused...
